3D model loader for Model Target class

July 30, 2019 - 2:24pm #1

Hi,

I am new using Vuforia in Android Studio, and I took the Vuforia example class for model targets, I want to replace the land.v3d file to one of my own, the problem its that the application crash when I replaced this line of code with my Phone.fbx model file.

boolean landerLoaded = renderer.mLanderModel.loadModel(activity.getResources().getAssets(), "Phone.fbx");

I've searched for this and I have found that I need to integrate a 3rd party rendering library in order to be able to load my 3D models, but I don't know how. Do you guys know some videos or documentation tutorials that I can follow in order to achieve this? please.

Regards,

Hi,

I would see this a 2 step process, you will need to first import the 3d model and then render it. To import the model, you could use Assimp and for rendering OpenGL. Both steps require you to learn Assimp and OpenGL - writing your own rendering engine is a technical challenge :)

Before proceeding further with Assimp and OpenGL please make sure to check that the tools meet your requirements and are able to achieve what you want with the project.

Alternatively you could use Unity which handles the rendering automatically.

Thank you.
