Android 4.3 Camera Stretched

December 5, 2013 - 1:50am #1

Hello,

I encountered a problem with the newly updated Samsung Galaxy S4 ( Android 4.3) version. When i want to do some changes and test the app on Samsung S4 , the camera preview opens as stretched version so the things on camera looks stretched. And it causes problem for the calculations i make in the background for OCR.

Has anyone come across something like this? While S4 was on 4.2.2 or with any other device we have never had a problem like this.

Thanks

It would help if anyone in this thread, observing this issue, could provide exact Model Name/Number (which you can find in the Device settings), as there are so many flavours of Galaxy S3 around...

also, I did not get an answer to my previous post (korayatlay) ?

Any additional information would help.

One thing that I would also ask to see if anyone in this thread can try:

  • uninstalling the app
  • switch off network / internet connection
  • reinstall the app
  • launch the app with internet off
  • repeat the same as above with internet ON (and then also  launch the app 2 or 3 times consecutivley witout uninstalling it)

Does this bring any difference ?

Interesting. Did you guys adjust screen width or height for the specific device(es) that had this issue?

We found it was a device specific hardware issue on the Galaxy S3, every other device we tested worked perfectly.

I'm finding the same issue on a Samsung S3. Is it a device profile issue?

I am having this same issue...my development team is creating an app for a BIG company, and I thought everything was working fine until I tested the app on a 4.3 device. Turns out EVEN THE RAW SAMPLE CODE has this issue as well, it looks like the projection matrix data is corrupted or slightly offset. Has anyone look further into this???

Ok. So, just for confirmation to be sure:

you see this message at startup, right?:

Configure Video Background : Video (640,480), Screen (1920,1080), mSize (1920,1152)

When you see the size changed to 800,480, do you see it as a first message at startup? or do you see the updated size (800,480) in a second message ?

I'm asking because the configureVideoBackground() is usually triggered in two places: in the startCamera and in the onSurfaceChanged, so you could see that message multiple times (e.g. the first time with one size, and the second time with another)

My configVideoConfiguration() method has never been touched. And now when i look at the Logs i am seeing this:

When its normal its like this :

Configure Video Background : Video (640,480), Screen (1920,1080), mSize (1920,1152)

And when its stretched its giving this value:

Configure Video Background : Video (800,480), Screen (1920,1080), mSize (1920,1152)

What can cause the problem for the video size to change like this while not changing the code at all

If the samples do not show this issue, my best suggestion would be to compare your code in which you configure the video background, with the function configureVideoBackground() which is provided with the samples (see for instance ImageTargets.cpp)

And also, one thing toi chek is that you call configureVideoBackground (or your equivalent implementation) both when you start the camera, as well as when the screen size changes (e.g. due to a device rotation )

Hi,

I installed the original ImageTargets. And i dont have that kind of problem with it. But like i said, i have never encountered this kind of situation with any of the phones before and also with S4 too. It only happened after i installed 4.3 to S4. I didnt even touch the code, just after update it became like this (stretched sideways).

Sometimes by itself it gets fixed for a while, but then after i restart the application for 1-2 times it becomes stretch again. And still i couldnt figure out how to get it back to the original situation.

I didnt change anything about the initialization part of the camera, only thing i do is to make it always work in landscape orientation. But again like i said above, i didnt change anything about the code part after i installed Android 4.3

Thanks

Do the samples show a stretched camera image ?

or is it a custom app that you are referring to ? if you provide more details maybe we can help...
