Cloud recognition for video

June 22, 2013 - 6:25am #1

Hi,

What are the necessary steps for adding cloud recognition support for video playing app? I would like to play video when the image is scanned. Since I require adding images at a later point of time, cloud recognition is required.

Is there any code reference available?

Thanks,

Binu Paul

You just need to combine cloud recognition and the video playback sample project. For further help we can connect together if you want I hav done this in one of my project.

Hello everyone, alwali, could you please help me achieving this?

I've been trying for days and days to integrate the cloud recognition for the video playback but my efforts have been unsuccessful.

Do you think you can help us to understand step by step how it should be done?

Or maybe you could share a sample where we can see your code and then have an idea of how to integrate it together.

any guide for this would be helpful.

I got a high number of image targets which needs different videos! I have previously build device database apps which works fine, but now as the app are becoming huge we would want to make it cloud based instead. However, looking at the samples and limited instructions for cloud database I feel completely lost. Clear instructions on how to A. Get video support for the cloud app and B. Be able to stream different videos would be helpful!

Please help

Hi binspaul,

Please let me know? How did you achieve it?

Hi!

I was able to do it by using the cloud Rceo as a starting point...then loading the video reco in.

copy the script attached from the video AR camera to the Cloud Reco camera which would give you video control eg start pause video etc.

attach the video prefab to your image target makign it a child. Insert the url of your video on your target.

ensure you have your App keys and access keys inserted.

You should now be able to change your image target via cloud...and the video should load on the image target itself..

the disadvantage is that it is limited to one video and unlimited target images.

for multiple videos i am trying to use metadata.

I am this close to doing it....I have a script im working on but have one error i need to recitfy but need help on it..

Has there been any update in the streaming issue on texture for iOS since 2013?

Also, couldn't one just stream and cache it for playback on texture?

Hi.

I am trying to merge the examples of "Cloud recognition" and "Video playback". I am modifying cloud recognition to launch a video but can not. Does anyone know how to do?

Thanks in advance, Pascual.

No, in that case, the streaming issue should not apply. But then please post the question in the iOS Forum, and explains exactly what you do on the iOS code:

Hi Al,

Does the streaming from URL condition apply since we are trying to load the video from persistentDataPath location?

Thanks,

Hi Binspaul,

if you check this FAQ:

https://developer.vuforia.com/forum/faq/videoplayback-what-videos-can-i-play-what-platform

You would see this note about the technique used in the VideoPlayback sample (which explains why you cannot play the video on texture when streaming from URL... this is not working on iOS):

iOS (native)

Videos can be played on-texture on any iOS version supported by Vuforia (no specific limitations).

However, videos that are streamed from a network URL can only be played in fullscreen mode on iOS.

For a list of supported video/audio file formats on iOS, you can consult this page:

http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/miscellaneous/conceptual/iphoneostechoverview/MediaLayer/MediaLayer.html

Hi Al,

I was able to port the Unity based code to iOS also. But in iOS version, the video is not getting played on texture as expected. The video is played full screen and once playing is completed, the system returns to normal screen.

I am using the setting 'VideoPlayerHelper.MediaType.ON_TEXTURE'. The settings/steps followed are:

-> The video is downloaded from web server using WWW

-> The video is dynamically loaded using the video prefab

---

I am using Unity 4.4 and my iPad is running iOS 6.1.3. I will try to update the OS version to 7.1 and will try again.

Thanks,

BP

Hi isxander,

I believe the problem in your case is that the Cloud Target that you have put in your Scene is just a template target, and it is only used by the CloudRecoEventHandler as a template baseline from which to create the "actual" target at runtime (see the code in CloudRecoEventHandler, the target gets created when a new searchResult is available).

So, this practically means that the Video prefab must be dynamically attached to the actual target instantiated at runtime, we don't have a tutorial specificlly for this case, but basically you can attach the Video prefab as a child of the Image Target created by the Cloud Reco Event Handler.

I hope this helps.

Hi AlessandroB,

I tried the video-playback-sample-app sample provided by vuforia & using my own path to run the video using this link -> "http://learnmusic.pbworks.com/w/file/fetch/69571495/Video%20Sample%201%20%28Small%29.m4v"

It was working just fine. The video plays successfully.

Then i tried combining the video-playback-sample-app and cloud-recognition-sample-app scripts. All the settings were correct & there were no duplication of scripts or some kind of errors occur. I read trough the script carefully step by step.

But somehow when i run the app, the video does not play. The loading icon stays forever.

Is it because of the Type from the Image Target between "Predefined" and "Cloud Reco" is different where if i use the type to "Predefined" the video will work but using "Cloud Reco" i need to change something with the script? or any settings i need to change otherwise it wont work? or is it something else?

Help is much appreciated.

Hi Al,

I have integrated video playback + cloud recognition service successfully.

Now, I would like to replace the default information screen + start button with a live view from camera + a start button (like in Layar app). What should be the need steps I have to follow to get this done?

Thanks,

Hi,

I was able to merge the cloud + image target detection succesfully. I am working on the cloud + video integration. When the same method is followed, I am getting some errors from the following code block in the Videoplayback.cpp file.

---

JNIEXPORT int JNICALL
Java_com_qualcomm_QCARSamples_VideoPlayback_VideoPlayback_initCloudReco(
    JNIEnv *, jobject)
{
    LOG("Java_com_qualcomm_QCARSamples_VideoPlayback_VideoPlayback_initCloudReco");

    QCAR::TrackerManager& trackerManager = QCAR::TrackerManager::getInstance();
    QCAR::ImageTracker* imageTracker = static_cast<QCAR::ImageTracker*>(
            trackerManager.getTracker(QCAR::Tracker::IMAGE_TRACKER));

    assert(imageTracker != NULL);

    //Get the TargetFinder:
    QCAR::TargetFinder* targetFinder = imageTracker->getTargetFinder();
    assert(targetFinder != NULL);

    // Start initialization:
    if (targetFinder->startInit(kAccessKey, kSecretKey))
    {
        targetFinder->waitUntilInitFinished();
    }

    int resultCode = targetFinder->getInitState();
    if ( resultCode != QCAR::TargetFinder::INIT_SUCCESS)
    {
        LOG("Failed to initialize target finder.");
        return resultCode;
    }

    // Use the following calls if you would like to customize the color of the UI
    // targetFinder->setUIScanlineColor(1.0, 0.0, 0.0);
    // targetFinder->setUIPointColor(0.0, 0.0, 1.0);

    return resultCode;
}

---

The error is:

LOG("Failed to initialize target finder.");

---

What can be the reason for this error? How to get over it?

Thanks,

Binu Paul

Hi,

I am working on the integration of cloud recognition and video player applications. I was able to switch the cloud database to my own database using the keys. But I am having few doubts:

1. What is the syntax of meta data package file that can be uploaded with the Cloud database -> Add Target option.

2. Will the same be available when the target is recognized by the application.

3. Do I need to set the server URL to mine using the attribute: private static final String mServerURL = "https://ar.qualcomm.at/samples/cloudreco/json/"; and what is the expected syntax/structure of the returned JSON object?

4. I am planning to get the video URL using the return JSON and create a media player using that. Is that the correct way?

Thanks,

Binu Paul

Hi, you can have a look at the CloudRecognition sample code and the VideoPlayback sample code, read and study them, and with a bit of patience you will be able to integrate the videos with the Cloud functionality; all the building blocks are there in the samples;

a couple of articles that you may find helpful are these:

https://developer.vuforia.com/resources/sample-apps/cloud-recognition-sample-app

https://developer.vuforia.com/resources/sample-apps/video-playback-sample-app

In both pages, you can find the "Sample Specific Notes" at the bottom of the page; open it and you will find a sample-code walk-through that guides you through the main parts of the sample code, for each sample.

I hope this helps.
