Difference in Android & iOS camera

December 6, 2014 - 5:32am #1

Hi,

   When the ARCamera starts up the zoom level is different in Android & iOS(iPad 3), this is quite noticeable. Marker needs to be taken further away in comparison to Android distance for identification.

Can someone please share some insights on this ? basically I want both of them to behave the same.

-Thanks

Different devices may use different camera resolutions and/or screen resolutions;  consequently, the camera image and the screen may also have different "aspect ratios" (i.e. the ratio between an image width and the height in pixels);

when the camera image is rendered on the screen (which has different aspect ratio than the camera image), Vuforia will fit the camera image so to avoid any image distortion / stretching.   If the aspect ratio of the camera differes significantly from the aspect ratio of the screen, the camera image might appear more "zoomed" than on other devices where the camera and screen aspect ratios are more close to each other.

So, what you observe is generally the expected behaviour, i.e. not all devices present the camera image in the same way.

One thing you could try is to set teh camer mode to MODE_OPTIMIZE_SPEED and see if the resulting camera resolution results in a more homogeneous layout across different devices
