How does Vuforia access the camera

Hello,

I am working with a head mounted stereo display that has two cameras for tracking.  I wish to as how would vuforia get the camera stream from the cameras does it use the native camera app or another method.  This is because when using vuforia it seems to use the native camera app rather than getting the stream directly from the camera.
