it's about vuforia 2.0 and android version

February 8, 2013 - 9:51am #5

I'm sorry if my question is too classic..

i little bit confuse here because i never touch vuforia since i have many assignment from my lecturer, when i came back here, i was surprised because the website has many change, and the very important was there is a new version for vuforia. got curious, i downloaded it and installed it to my laptop. stting up some configurations, and ready to try it on my android (the common one: imagetarget)

the thing is.. i saw at the project panel, it was said Android 4.1.2. well, then i tried it to my android (v4.0.4), it didn't work.

my question is, are the sample projects for vuforia 2.0 just for Android 4.1.2 or above?

thx...

Hi, Vuforia samples can run on any Android version from 2.2 or above;

the fact that you compile with Android 4.1.2 does not mean that the App will not run on your device with 4.0.4

(if you check the AndroidManifest.xml, you will see that <minSdk = 8>, which means Android 2.2 and above are supported).

If the sample did not work for you, it could be because you did not perform all the necessary steps to compile it properly; for example have you built the native code launching ndk-build from a cygwin or cmd console ?

I would invite you to also read carefully these two sections:

https://developer.vuforia.com/resources/dev-guide/getting-started-android-native-sdk

https://developer.vuforia.com/resources/dev-guide/step-3-compiling-running-vuforia-sample-app

Those should put you on the right track.

yeahh, thanks allesandroB and dennisAC for a question. !!!  i have same problem before, i just compiled ndk and rebuild the projects. and it's works :D

I have a question allesandroB , it's about video playback projects. I have seen the output from video playback vuforia projects in android v. 4.0 or above, and the output from android v 2.33. (My android version 2.3.3 hehe). There's a different while the video played. At android version 4.0 or above, the video played through when the camera pointed on marker, but it doesn't work same in android v 2.3.3.

My question is, can you explain why the projects doesn't work same on both version ? :D :D

thanks,

Warm Regards.

@ dennisAC:

the differences between v1.5 and 2.0 are summarized here:

https://developer.vuforia.com/resources/dev-guide/transitionmigration-guide

Major new features of v2.0 are:

  • Cloud Recognition
  • User Defined Targets
  • Front camera support and mirroring control

@denmas:

about your question on the VideoPlayback sample; the difference in behaviour between 2.3 and 4.0 is expected and it is due to the fact that the video-on-texture capability (i.e. texture rendered on the 3D target) relies on a specific Android feature which is available only on 4.0 and above; so, on any Android version prior to 4.0, the video will instead be rendered in fullscreen mode only.
