Large targets not being recognized further then 1 meter away

July 9, 2014 - 10:33pm #1

Hello All

I'm using the Books example as a base for an app I'm creating but have raninto an issue with recognition distance. Even though my images are 5 star and are about 1.5x2.5 feet (they're floor mats with different images on them), the best recognition distance I can achieve so far is about 1 meter away. What can I do to increase the recognition distance? I've read that 3-5 metrers is easily achieved by many. I've also read something about Far Distance Plane, but think that it only refers when using Vuforia with Unity and actually not sure where I would adjust it. Please Help

Hi,

we also set a far plane for android and iOS samples. You can check visually if you have a far plane issue by having detection and watching your augmentation while stepping back. If it is a far plane issue then you should see your augmentation to be "cut" while you go farther. To change the far plane search for:

private void setProjectionMatrix()

On the other hand if it is shaking and then it disappears it is because you are losing track of your object. Note that you can have tracking at farther distances if you are pointing your camera in a perpendicular position (ie. a picture hanging in the wall). If your target is in the floor and you are not using extended tracking you will lose tracking at a shorter distance. I think that for your use case you would like to use extended tracking.
