Limit area of detection to reticle

March 7, 2018 - 2:30am #1

Hi everyone,

In my use case I need to detect only one VuMark in case there are two in camera view. I've set the simultaneous targets to 1 but if first is detected it is locked until it goes off camera view and only then the second one is locked.

Is it possible to limit the area where Vuforia is detecting for trackables to the reticle size?

Hello again,

Your proposed solution sounds like a good approach for this. I'd recommend only running this logic if you know more than 1 target is detected and in view.

Hello Strasza,

thank you for your reply. However, the problem is not in displaying the trackable augmentations, I already tried that, but in determining which one the user is focusing because the index of found trackables doesn't change. For example, if user is viewing two trackables (within reticle) and I lock the augumentation to first (index[0]), it will be selected until it goes off area. Problem is that the trackables are mantaining order in the list of detected trackables until the one is evicted, so I was searching for doing this earlier in detection process, to prioritise the "centered" trackable in the list.

I can think of the way which involves projecting the center point of view in space and calculating distances between the trackables, but it's a bit overkill in this case where only the detection of one trackable is needed.

Hello gnenadic,

There is not a built in way within Vuforia to do this, but there is a means to do this. If you have a designated area within the camera frame you wish the detection to occur, you can hide all augmentations on targets that don't appear within this area. This would involve increasing the maximum simultaneously tracked images and instead of immediately displaying the augmentation on the target, have an additional check that determines if the location the target is on camera is within your designated detection area (such as a reticle).
