State of Autofocus with ARCore

November 3, 2019 - 9:08pm #1

Hi,

We are wondering if broken autofocus with ARCore issue has been fixed in the latest 8.5.8 SDK? If I understand correctly, support for autofocus has been added into ARCore a while ago.

Our app (native) use 8.3.8 and we are experiencing this issue, and this is quite a major problem for us.

Thanks in advance.

Came back to report that autofocus does work with 8.3.8. The issue was with our app.

Thanks for the response.

We're wondering if you can point out a device where autofocus confirmed to work in this case? All of our ARCore-supporting devices don't seem to support this.

Hi,

The functioning of focus modes on a device is solely based upon the OEM's implementation. Vuforia does not have its own implementation, so our APIs call native OS APIs.

If your device supports ARCore, then Vuforia Fusion will call ARCore APIs in support of auto focus. If ARCore does not support auto focus on that device, then Vuforia Engine will not support it either.

Thank you.

Anyone from Vuforia can shed some light on this?

We just need to understand the official state of this, and redesign our app around the limitation if we have to.

Just to be clear, we need: Autofocus, Ground Plane with FUSION_PROVIDER_PLATFORM_SENSOR_FUSION, and Image Target, running on native Android.
