Using Vuforia with ARDrone 2.0

February 14, 2014 - 12:54pm #1

I am trying to integrate the Vuforia SDK into the Parrot ARDrone 2.0 SDK Android app.

I am wondering whether this is possible.

The drone application consists of the live video from the drone and drone controls (joysticks and buttons) layed over the video. I want to make a simple AR game to overlay some virutal assets over certain markers detected in the video feed from the drone.

Could someone please give me some assistence?

Thank you in advance!

Thank you Alessandro for your explanation.

I do not see any chance to address my issue with vuforia then: I necessarily have to switch to other technologies like Metaio, that is exactly what I wanted to avoid.

I am not aware of any official interoperability support between Vuforia and the ARDrone SDK that you mention here.

Some technical notes:

  • It is possible to retrieve individual camera frames from Vuforia (in case you want to use them to feed the ARDrone SDK, if this is possible), as explained here:
  • this could allow you to take camera frames from Vuforia and inject those frames as s sort of video input into the ARDrone SDK; however, I do not know whether the ARDrone SDK accepts video frames from external source (you probably need to check this in the ARDrone SDK website)

I have exactly the same problem but seems there are no answers to this topics since months.

Anyone has any ideas on how to bridge the drone's video feed to Vuforia?
