Vuforia Installation Problem on Windows 7 for Android environment

February 4, 2013 - 9:47am #1

I am trying to install the vuforia (vuforia-sdk-android-2-0-30) in my development environment but the installer crashes/disappears without any error.

I am running the following:

- Windows 7 (64-bit)

- jdk1.7.0_11

- latest version of android development tools

- androind-ndk-r8d

I am ot sure what to do at this point because the installer is not throwing any excepetions/errors. I have checked system and application logs but there is nothing there.

Is anyone else having this problem? Are there any older versions of vuforia that I might be able to get that will work? How can I fix this problem and install vuforia?

I'd appreciate any help/advice.

Thanks

I still haven't found the solution to this problem. If you find anything, please post it here.

OK. At the moment I don't see other issues; in case you still have problems even after installing NDK R8b, I would suggest to try and go through the step-by-step installation procedure as explained in our web portal (Java, Eclipse, Android SDK, NDK and finally Vuforia).

I tried running it as administrator  and same thing.

The black screen only appears for a split second - not long enough to get a screenshot. The black screen has no information in it (its just blank)

I will try older version of NDK tomorrow to see if that helps.

Please let me know if you think of anything else that I can try.

Thanks

One thing you may want to try is open the exe via "Run as administrator", to see if it makes any difference;

actually you mentioned a black window appearing quickly right before the crash; I understand this is appearing and disappearing very quickly, but I am wondering of from one of your screenshots you can see any specific error message in it ?

Another thing to consider is to install the NDK-r8b (instead of "R8d"), although I strongly doubt that this is the cause of the problem (but you never know...)

I tried everything that you suggested but no luck. I restarted my computer and downloaded the installer again - but I am getting same result.

I tried downloading it through Chrome and Firefox - same result.

Another thing that might have played a role (note sure) is that instead of downloading individual components, I downloaded ADT bundle for windows availabale at http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html and includes the following:

  • Eclipse + ADT plugin
  • Android SDK Tools
  • Android Platform-tools
  • The latest Android platform
  • The latest Android system image for the emulator

Are there any logs or something that I can check to see what is the exact problem?

I have some other phonegap android applications that I am able to run in eclipse - which tells me that java, android sdk and phonegap has been installed correctly and included in the system path.

Thanks for your help and time on this.

Hi, if you see the green progress bar until half length (or a bit more) and then the dialog disappear, this is because the installer is switching to a new dialog;

at this point in time a "Vuforia" Splashscreen should be displayed in the middle of the screen; however the splashscreen might be displayed behind some other window, so you might need to close or minimize all your windows to see that...

after the splashscreen, a dialog should popup to continue the installation;

actually, it is hard to tell what may go wrong in your case, but I would recommend the following:

- download the Vuforia installer again

- restart your computer

- relaunch the installer, avoiding running other software or opening other windows during the installation (this is just to be on the "safe" side)

Other than that, the installer should normally run in Windows 7-64 bit without problems (as this has been tested extensively, and I've also installed it on the same system recently).

I hope this helps.

I double click on the .exe file and I see a gree progress bar get to almost half and then a black command window opens and then everything disappears. All this happens within 1-2 seconds - so there is not enough time to take many screenshots. I was able to take one screenshot but I dont think it is very helpful - and this forum didnt give me an option to attach it anyway.

Thanks

Hi, at which step of the installation process does the installer "disappears" ?
