Why do I need to install cygwin for development with Qualcomm Vuforia on Android ? For running the NDK build ?

Background: https://developer.qualcomm.com/mobile-development/mobile-technologies/computer-vision-fastcv/setting-developer-environment

I saw this https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!topic/android-ndk/zAjzy4PZtmw while trolling the QDevNet threads.

I'm just asking out of curiosity. In-depth explanation welcomed.

Yes it's to support the NDK.

Cygwin isn't strictly necessary for running NDK builds, any longer ( since r7 ) , but it's a convenient and reliable way to ensure that the Make utility is installed and set-up correctly. Android NDK builds utilize make files to define the build and constituent resources / dependencies.

It's strongly suggested that you use Cygwin on Windows.
