Working with devices with DUO cameras

October 7, 2014 - 11:26am #1

I'm having a unique situtation come up with an app on the HTC One (M8). It stems from the fact that the HTC One has two back facing cameras (called Camera DUO). When running our app on that device, only one of the cameras is used, and unfortunately, the camera being used is not built to focus on close up shots. Since the app uses user defined targets, and we want to restrict to high quality targets only, the camera being used will not give us high quality user defined targets. Furthermore, the selected camera does not seem to fast/strong enough to give an uninterrupted live camera feed. (This issue is only occuring on HTC One).

All of this is to say, is there anyway to specificy which of the two backfacing cameras is used by Vuforia? The CameraDevice class has 3 enumerated camera options : CAMERA_DEFAULT, CAMERA_BACK, CAMERA_FRONT. I will try to see if default or front are different and post back if I find anything. If anyone has experience with two back facing cameras, any insight would be much appreciated.

Let us know what the results of trying the different CameraDevice options are. If you can't get the more desirable rear camera to be selected, please provide the Android version, build number, and software version from the device settings. Also let us know which rear camera (top or bottom) you are trying to use.
