Target Clarity

June 13, 2021 - 7:10pm #1

I am currently using an iPad Pro with inbuild LiDAR to create area targets using the area target creator app. I was originally having no sucess, but now I am able to create scans uing the iPad. I have attatched an image of what the area target looks like below:

I was wondering is there any way to get a better quality scan using the iPad, or are higher quality scans exclusive to cameras like the MatterPort. Additionally, is there any way I can extend the length of the scan using the iPad, I find that I usually need about 30-40 more seconds to make the scan; however, there is a time limit. Please let me know as soon as you can.

the scan limit is 5 minutes now. For larger spaces one should go with a professional scanner (Matterport), scanner app is meant to take sample scans to demonstrate the technology. Scan quality cannot be improved by extending the time, longer scans are usually worse due to various reasons.

Please check the Vuforia Engine article  on the library Vuforia Developer side "Combining Multiple Area Targets"

article, that describes a recipe to use multiple ATs covering larger spaces.

Combining Multiple Area Targets | VuforiaLibrary

Multiple Area Targets made from individual scans can be placed together in the Unity Editor to create a seamless tracking experience of multiple connected spaces. It is possible to scan multiple rooms and areas separately and then fit them together later to cover a single AR experience over a larger area. However, the Area Targets might drift away from one another at runtime; leaving a gap or incorrect poses of the individual Area Targets.
