convert marker to 8 bit grayscale

Hi, we are meeting some issues on the type of images we are uploading on the target manager for Cloud RecognitionMy question is: if we take ANY image we want to upload and preprocess it so it becomes a 8 bit greyscale then is it true that it is recognizable even if the real marker is coloured? So I take a real coloured image (that will for example be printed on a poster) and then convert it to 8 bit grayscale, this image will be correctly recognized? Thanks a lot Antonio 

Thanks for the reply but this does not answer my question.

I need to convert images into a format that is always recognized. I cannot tell my user to prepare images in a specific forma so I have to pre convert them.
