convert marker to 8 bit grayscale

November 18, 2015 - 11:24pm #1
Hi,
we are meeting some issues on the type of images we are uploading on the target manager for Cloud Recognition

My question is:

if we take ANY image we want to upload and preprocess it so it becomes a 8 bit greyscale then is it true that it is recognizable even if the real marker is coloured?

So I take a real coloured image (that will for example be printed on a poster) and then convert it to 8 bit grayscale, this image will be correctly recognized?

Thanks a lot

Antonio

Here's the supported image formats:

"Must be 8- or 24-bit PNG and JPG formats; less than 2 MB in size; JPGs must be RGB or greyscale (no CMYK)"

Thanks for the reply but this does not answer my question.

I need to convert images into a format that is always recognized. I cannot tell my user to prepare images in a specific forma so I have to pre convert them.

Can I convert all color images to grayscale 8 bit and import these images into vuforia cloud and be sure that these images will  always be accepted and their corresponding colour image be correctly recognized?

Thanks

Antonio

Make sure that color images are RGB (not RGBA, Indexed Color, etc.).

Hi, thanks for the answer

Let me put it differently: there are some color images that vuforia does not accept. So i am looking for a way of converting all images to a format that I am sure it is recognized.

I was thinking of converting all imges to gryscale 8 bit.

My only concern is that in this case I am losing color information.

Is this color information necessary to recognize a marker?

Or is my soution good?

Thanks a lot for a quick response.

Vuforia recognizes targets in greyscale. It is not necessary to convert images to greyscale before uploading them to Target Manager.
