Hello again,
I set up the project following the docs and I didn't have any issues with the vuforia unity package. I uploaded imagetargets to the cloud database and my app recognized them. Today I transfered the project from a windows machine running windows 8 64bit to a windows 10 machine 64 bit. Both machines have the same version of Unity (5.1.1 64bit).
Now when I build the app from the windows 10 machine I get the window that says
faild to initialize vuforia
I am creating the project from start and again I get the same error. Also when trying the sample apps (Books and SampleReco), the same error appears.
I deleted the license key from License manager and created a new one, update the applications with the new lisence key but the error remains.
Am I missing something?
any help is really appreciated.

OK, I' ll try to remain calm here...
My nexus upgraded today to android 6.0 and I had to manually enable the permissions (camera etc.) from the settings of the app. Now vuforia initializes again..

I'm seeing the same. When the App installs it says it doesn't need any special permissions.
Any ideas what is going on here?

I am having a similiar issue. I made a copy of my project in order to integrate google cardboard without messing up my app, however when I go back to the original I get the "Vuforia failed to Initialize".

You can avoid having to handle runtime permissions by setting the targetSdkVersion to 22 (or lower) in the Android Manifest, see here:

if you are working with the Native SDK with Android Studio, the targetSdkVersion should be specified in the app build.gradle file (located under the "/app" subfolder of your project)
