Invalid file format

January 29, 2019 - 6:41am #1

Hi,

Every time I tried to upload an background transparent PNG, it shows "Invalid file format.Only 8 bit gray scale or 24 bit RGB of file type JPG or PNG are allowed."   I have search through the forum but no solution was found. Although the Vuforia Engine Support replied to the people who have the same problem with the same answer :

Image must be in one of the supported formats: PNG or JPEG

Image must either be grayscale or RGB-24 bit.

This means that 32-bit images with an alpha channel (RGB + Alpha) are not allowed.

Image size does not exceed 2 MB

But it is still not working.

Is there anyone can help me?

Hi,

I tried to upload 2 pictures. The left one uploaded successful, but the right one can't. I noticed that after I deleted the background, the PNG become 'RGB with alpha' which lead to the upload unsuccessful. So how can I make a transparent background PNG without alpha? or any tools than can remove my exist transparent background PNG's alpha channel? Thank you for your help.

Hello,

I uploaded the image to an online analysis tool: http://fotoforensics.com/. I'm sure there are others, but this one came up towards the top in Google.

After upload, I reviewed the Metadata analysis. It shows the PNG color type as "RGB with Alpha". This means that the image is using the Alpha channel and thus is not valid for use with Vuforia's Target Manager.

A likely simple solution is to convert the image's format to JPG.

Thanks,

Vuforia Engine Support
