3d object tracking

November 25, 2013 - 3:38pm #1
I have a few questions about 3d object tracking.
I would like to know the minimun size needed for the object to be tracked?
Should I use basic 3d models, like a cube, a cilinder or a square, for tracking or can I track complex objects as well?
Does Vuforia recognize forms, colors and sizes?

Thank very much.
Regards

Hi there,

I've got a question regarding bigger objects like a real car. Is it possible to use vuforia object recognition to augment it?

E.g. is it possible to scan in a modell (toy) car sized version of that car and then the real car would be recognised also? Any hints?

Thanks

Hi,

I have a similar requirement.

I need to be able to detect the car interiors, engine bay, etc. to augment it with additional information.

Do i have to follow the same technique to scan the car dashboard, engine compartment, etc.? (which is difficult to achieve)

Thanks

Go to:

https://developer.vuforia.com/downloads/tool

  • Download the Scanner APK zip file ("scanner-x-y-z.zip")
  • extract the ZIP file
  • You'll then find the PDFs inside the "media" directory.

Hi @AlessandroB-

Can you Vuforia guys please post a Hi-Res version of the object tracker marker PDF?  And a link to it here in reply?

Thanks

Can I import my own 3D model created in a 3D application (3DMax, Maya, etc)?

If so, what format?

Does the object tracker emphasize the texture (contrast points) or shape? or both?  weight one verus other?

I don't have an Android device to use Vuforia's scanning app.  I have a model of the 3D product already.

Thanks!

Hello,

I have the same problem, except that I scanned my 3D Object with the App. But the Result is not the best, because I need to scan parts of the 3D printed object. It would be really easier, to convert the .obj-files to the .od-file. But i don't have a converter.

I really need the tecnical specs of the Object Recognition Scanner app, to know what the app does. Scans It features, contrasts, or what?

i'm working in my final project about  "augmented reality markerless using 3d object tracking method", where should i start ? because my lecturer told me that i need using vuforia if i wan't to make 3d object such as (in my case : inscription in the museum). i don't know how  vuforia can detect and track the 3d object

thank you

Please read the developer guide (the sections that I referred you to, as well as other sections). It's all explained there.

Note that current version of Vuforia does not support generic object tracking, but only tracking of 3D targets in the form of Multi Targets and Cylinder targets.

Thanks for the answer, but Can I track a different object, like a little car or another toy?

And What is the minimun size for the tracking? Can I track a 3d object so small, less than 1 inch?

Thanks

Vuforia can detect multi-targets (e.g. cuboids) and cylinder targets.

See the developer guide:

https://developer.vuforia.com/resources/dev-guide/multi-targets
