Detecting 3D object with image target

June 11, 2019 - 4:47am #1

Hi,

I am trying to detect different parts of the DVD box (rectangular box) using image target. For the flat surfaces, I am able to detect it. But as soon as I connect cables and try to detect, it's not detecting at all.

Please note that both images, (with and without cable) are part of my image target database.

Is it possible to detect 3d real world objects using image target? For flat surface(object with x and y axis only OR 2D suface of object) it is working fine. But as soon as 3rd axis comes in real world object(after connecting the cable), it's not detecting.

I can't use vuforia object detection because I want to detect the object part by part and not entirely. Is there any way to achieve this?

Detecting 3D object with image target

Hi,

Vuforia engine can accept 4 different types of targets:

  1. Single Image: you already knew it. (https://library.vuforia.com/content/vuforia-library/en/features/images/image-targets.html)
  2. Cuboid: it take different images for different aspects of b cubic shape target and it also takes the size of the box in virtual world. Actually it is a Multi-Target type. (https://library.vuforia.com/content/vuforia-library/en/articles/Training/Multi-Target-Guide.html)
  3. Cylinder: it takes one image but it supposed to be an image which is wrapped around some thing cylindrical like soda cans or bottles.(https://library.vuforia.com/content/vuforia-library/en/articles/Solution/Cylinder-Targets-Guide.html)
  4. 3D Object: in this type first you have to scan object by "Vuforia Object Scanner" then you will add the output to your dataset and use it to detect and track your object model as your AR Target. There is also something called "Model Target" which can be used when you want to recognize shape of the 3D object instead of texture and image of it. So it takes for example 3D CAD model to detect target. So you can give it a tool CAD model and it will recognize all tools with that shape regardless of color and some textural details.

I think you may choose Cuboid or even 3D Object target types and complete what you wanna do.

Good luck,
