Detecting Certain part of the 3d Object Using Object Scanner

June 11, 2019 - 10:22pm #1

Is it possible to detect certain parts of the physical object using Vuforia Object Scanner? Or is it possible to create Object Dataset File for a specific part of the object and try to detect it?

I have a rectangular DVD box and I am trying to detect different parts of it.

Detecting Certain part of the 3d Object Using Object Scanner

Hello,

We have tried using Multi targets but for my use case, I have more than one parts on one side of the box and I want to detect them individually. For example, I have different slots to connect cables and I want to detect each slot with and without cable individually. Is it possible with Multi Target?

Thanks,

Meghaksh

Hello,

This will depend upon how you scan it. If there are areas you don't want to be included, then those areas would need to be covered in white and not scanned when using the tool.

Unfortunately, there is no way to modify the .OD file once it is created by the Object Scanner Tool.

A couple of thoughts about your use case:

  • I believe you should consider Multi Targets rather than Object Targets for a DVD case: https://library.vuforia.com/content/vuforia-library/en/articles/Training/Multi-Target-Guide.html. This will also allow you to *not* include sides of the DVD box that are not needed and thus basically achieving what you're trying to do with Object Targets
  • The bound side of the DVD case, which usually shows the title, is typically narrow and contains mostly text. Both of these factors will provide a challenge for reliable Vuforia Engine detection and tracking, regardless of whether you use Object Targets or Multi Targets

Good luck.

Thanks,
