How to get a higher target rating

Hi there :) I'm new to the vuforia sdk and I'm currently working together with 3 students on a research project. We currently try to detect a specific belt buckle with a unique pattern and place a 3D model of the buckle over it in different colors... Unfortunately we ran into big trouble when trying to convert the design sketches or original photos. The rating is (I think) below 0 stars, maybe -1  So what could we do to create a better result here. I attached 2 variants, the one with the noisy structure has a rating of 2 stars. This would work although only sub-optimal. Thanks for any help Alex

You can try increasing the complexity of the gold region and/or add a pattern to the black region. Vuforia looks for sharp transitions, like corners. It also looks for contrast variation.

Hi David, thanks for your fast response. I played a little with Photoshop and tried to add some "distortions" to the reference image and removed the 3D effects. Now it's at least possible to detect the buckle but tracking doesn't work well. It's a little bit difficult to figure out what could be

The first and third images should track well. Are you printing these targets, or trying to capture them from your computer screen? - print them. Computer screens can be tricky when there is a light background because they tend to 'blow out' the whites.
