Image Targets with transparency

December 16, 2013 - 5:05am #1

Hello,

how can I use transparent areas in an image target?

I remember slightly, that there was an recommendation for that in the older guideline for creating target images: e.g. using a black area for that, hence the png have to be in RGB. The alpha channel is not allowed to use.

But I cannot find this statement anymore. Unfortunately, it isn't working very good either.

When I have a black background, my target image is requiring a black background as well, when recognizing it in my app.

Has anyone expecience with transparent areas?

Thank you very much!

make sure the image is cut out and placed on a fully white background. When the image target is created it will only pick up the coloured features as markers. See explained info in link below

I see. But is there a best practice, how to handle undefined areas?

Does vuforia support blackened are areas better than white areas.

We want to recognize glasses  - and have to ignore some space otherwise the end users can not see anything from the rest of the world ;-)

As I mentioned before, there was some kind of official recommendation.

Thanks again! Your support is very much appreciated.

Image targets can only be in grayscale or RGB-24 bit format; alpha is not allowed.
