Using UDT to impose pre -defined image

April 23, 2013 - 8:15am #1

In UDT a user can click an image and use it as tracker to augument. But many times these images are not good enough to be used as tracker.  So is there a way that I impose a predefined image or marker where user clicks and then use it to augument.

Which means when user clicks , I impose a marker on the screen and then AR uses the marker to show augumented stuff instead of using the clicked image as tracker.

Hi,

So is it possible that once the model is loaded based on the target image , then we can drag or move it out of the target image ?

you can move the 3D model with respect to the target image (that's just a matter of using a relative translation),  however, the image target (the physical target that you captured when you created the UDT) must remain inside the camera field of view, otherwise you will loose tracking.

Also can we customize the target capture window. In the sample UDT it almost cover the entire screen. Can I give it a circular shape and reduce its size ?

No, in the current SDK you can only use the entire camera image, there is no support for customization such as using a reduced sub-region of it;   but this is a feature request that you may want to post in our Forum "wish-list":

Hi, ok, now I understand;

no, that scenario would not work, because the "marker" that you impose would just be a virtual drawing artificially added to your camera image, so then Vuforia would not be able to track the pose as you move your device.

In short, this is just not possible.

WHat you need, is to have a REAL target (i.e. a real object, such as a printed image for instance) on the wall;

if you plan to have just a flat white wall, Vuforia cannot do much with it; you need to have some real detail (e.g. some drawings or paintings) on the wall, in order to generate a good UDT and augment that.

I cannot think of other relevant solutions...

Using UDT to impose pre -defined image

Let me qoute an example from our App . We are planning to help customer try home decor through augumented reality, now the backgroud where customer would like to see the item, for example a wall painting or vase or other showpieces does not fit as an ideal tracker image. In our example of wall painting , customer takes the snap of the wall where he would like to see the virtual wall painting to know how it looks with rest of the room but a wall image is not a good tracker image so our app can'nt place the virtual wall painting

Hence, I was wondering what if while pointing to wall customer clicks at the screen where he would like to see the wall painting and our app impose a marker where he has clicked. And this marker is then used to augument the wall painting. So my question is will we be able to do something of this nature or can you suggest some other solution which I may try

Hi, not sure I understand what you mean by

"I impose a marker on the screen and then AR uses the marker to show augumented stuff"

could you clarify a bit ?
