Black Screen on Samsung Galaxy Trend

October 25, 2013 - 2:39am #1

I get a black screen with:

PHONE : Samsung Galaxy Trend GT-S7560

ANDROID: Android version 4.0.4

UNITY : Unity pro version  4.2.1f4

Vuforia: Unity Extension 2.6.7 for Android and iOS

I have unchecked USe 32-bit Display Buffer & Use 24-bit Depth Buffer (answer I found on rhe forums..) and still getting a black screen feed from the camera. I do get tracking and everything else is working perfectly but not getting the camera feed.

Any quick fix solution would be appreciated we are quite in hurry!

Thanks!

OK. What I'm saying is that if you migrate, perhaps some of those device-specific issues that you are seeing might disappear on the new version.

On the other hand, if you still see the same issues after upgrading to 2.8 and Unity 4.3, then we can investigate the issue on the specific devices.

Meanwhile, what are the specific devices you see the black screen ?

Do you see the issue in Portrait mode or Landscape (or both) ?

Since Vuforia 2.8 has just been released and this is compatible with Unity 4.3, I'd recommend to upgrade to this latest version and to Unity 4.3, as this may solve the issue.

Be sure to consult the migration guide when upgrading your project - https://developer.vuforia.com/resources/dev-guide/transitionmigration-guide

Its specific to my app but the quick fix switching from OpenGL ES 2.0 to 1.x did fix the issue but lost some very important parts of the app for us... Will try to update unity and see what happens

First question:

does this happen in one of our samples (so that we can look at it and try to reproduce) ? or is it specific to your app ?

Second: For a possible quick fix:

Have you tried switching from OpenGL ES 2.0 to OpenGL 1.1 ? we have seen a couple of other cases where Unity on OpenGL ES 2.0 was having similar issue on some specific devices.

Also, Unity has just released 4.2.2 (which is fully compatible with 4.2.1, but contains some additional bug fix and improvmenets)... not sure if this would solve it, but we have a similar record for a Sony Xperia (same issue) which was solved by simply upgrading from Unity 4.1.3 to 4.1.5.
