Devices, dropped frames ?

October 28, 2014 - 5:05am #1

Hi,

I'm getting dropped frames (duplicate frames, that give a bit of a stutter/jerky/less fluid experience) running the Image Targets sample with Vuforia 2.8.9 on a iPhone4S (iOS7). Tried both MODE_OPTIMIZE_QUALITY and MODE_OPTIMIZE_SPEED.

I've read https://developer.vuforia.com/forum/faq/how-can-i-improve-detection-and-tracking-stability and assume the reason for the dropped frames is that the iPhone4S is not powerful enough.

On what devices (iOS or Android) should I expect to be able to run the Image Targets sample without dropped frames ? (assuming lighting conditions etc. are good) I need extended tracking, and the user should be able to pan away from the marker.

Many thanks in advance!

Soeren

The iPhone 4S has a dual-core GPU and the iPhone 5 has a tri-core GPU. The iPad 3 has a quad-core GPU. Having tested with the quad-core, the video seems pretty smooth. If you are experiencing dropped frames with CAMERA_MODE_SPEED and the ImageTargets sample, then it could simply be an issue with the power of the device to handle it. You can also try Vuforia 3.x and see if there's any difference in performance.
