my device does not support the full resolution :( (camera resolution)

July 23, 2012 - 7:52pm #1

I want a full resolution.

But my device does not support the full resolution.

I'd like to know the fundamental reason.

I've tested the device are as follows:

- Samsung galaxy tab 10.1

     SHW-M380W

- Samsung galaxy tab 7.7

     SHW-M180L

- Samsung galaxy S2

   SHW-M250S

Only have full resolution on samsung galaxy S2.

  samsung galaxy tab 10.1, samsung galaxy tab 7.7 How do I resolve?

It's not a bug. The camera MODE is a "hint", which on some devices results in a higher resolution (but not on all devices). See also my previous answer.

I tried the VideoModes "MODE_OPTIMIZE_QUALITY" and "MODE_OPTIMIZE_SPEED". they gave the same result, even though cameradevice.getNumVideoModes returns 2.

is this a known bug?

Hi, again, there is no specific solution to this; on certain devices the camera preview resolution is limited to 640 x 480.

Hi,

the best you can achieve is by using MODE_OPTIMIZE_QUALITY; I'm not aware of any hack/workaround to reach higher resolutions;

if that does not entirely fits your needs, I would encourage you to post your request in the wish-list section of the forum:

how to get more video resolution ...

December 17, 2012 - 1:35pm #3

I have the same question from Holland, how do I get maximum resolution?

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Tab2 with on-board video resolution 1280x720.

I have tried all options with selectVideoMode(..),

MODE_DEFAULT = -1,           ///< Default camera mode
MODE_OPTIMIZE_SPEED = -2,    ///< Fast camera mode
MODE_OPTIMIZE_QUALITY = -3   ///< High-quality camera mode

but cameraDevice.getVideoMode function gives always resolution 640x480...

I really need higher resolution because of the small objects and small differences between them, 640x480 resolution is to low for it!

Is there any way to change this (even with an hack or so)?

Another options is to use another Android tablet, has anyone suggestions of experience for another one?

Thanks for all input!

btw. besides this (major) problem, great software!

What resolutions are you seeing? Have you tried setting the ARCamera for MODE_OPTIMIZE_QUALITY?

Vuforia relies on the resolutions supported by the device for video preview. And the final resolution is modified by the camera mode settings.
