Gear VR instructions unclear

April 14, 2015 - 2:38pm #1
The code-change instructions on https://developer.vuforia.com/library/articles/Solution/Developing-for-the-Gear-VR seem like they have some discrepancies between what the text on the page is asking and what the images demonstrating the code change show.  Some of them may be explained by shifting line numbers during the changes, but others (like duplicated images) are probably just wrong.  Here are the discrepancies I've noted:

Text referencing line 299 has image referencing line 178
Text referencing line 652 has image referencing line 662
Text referencing line 674/731 has image referencing line 686/744
Text referencing line 746/763 has image referencing line 686/744
Text referencing line 777/787 has image referencing line 761/781

It would be helpful to have the instructions cleared up, or alternatively provide modified versions of the script files for download.

Thanks

Follow the new directions for 0.5.0 ... however, it will likely only work on Note 4 and not S6

Aha--I've had success with Oculus Mobile Unity SDK 0.4.2 and Gear VR Note 4, but not Oculus SDK 0.5.0 or 0.5.1. Other people are also finding the 0.5.x SDK is not working with Vuforia for now?

Thanks! That one seems to work for now. Although it is still a bit buggy when hitting play in Unity (sometimes it works sometimes it does not work).

Last thing I need to achieve is plugging it into the GearVR. Unitll now my app is not requesting it to be plugged in the headset (if I do so the normal Samsung VR Menu starts). Any easy way to achieve this?

Would be great if Vuforia could give an answer.... I see that all the questions about the GearVR are not answered...

Has anyone tried fixing all the script errors that come up with OVR 0.5 with Vuforia?

Yeah the digital eyewear for vuforia requires you to use version 0.4.2. They don't really mention that anywhere.

Oculus have updated their Mobile SDK to 0.5.0

I assume this invalidates everything...
Mostly because the references to scripts one needs to change no longer exist. I mean even the scipts aren't there. There is no  ‘Editor\OVRCameraControllerEditor.cs’ among other now missing or changed scripts.

Or am I missing something? Wouldn't surprise me. You'd think after 4 years of using Vuforia I'd know what I'm doing by now.

I have gone through this process.

You/re right, it is extremely unclear and has many errors with images.

And the line mentions are all before you add anything (it mentions that). So first make marks at all the lines that it mentions before you add anything, then add that if statement.

And you should also know that all of those additions are surrounding pieces that change the camera in some form, the fov/position/etc, and most of them just cover a couple lines. It's pretty easy to know what to wrap when you are looking at the right lines.

Also it isnt mentioned that you need to be using Oculus Mobile 0.4.2.

BUT, it also just doesn't work, even once you do all of that. There won't be errors, but the viewports do not display properly once you build to the device. At least for me.

Please let me know if you have a different experience.
