GearVR is just not working, anyone? Vuforia please answer!!!!

May 5, 2015 - 12:12am #1
I am trying to create an augmented reality app for the GearVR. I am using Unity for this App however I did not get it to work with the Vuforia SDK (do note I have al ready developed several apps for the gearVR). I have completed all the steps that where in your documentation (https://developer.vuforia.com/library/articles/Solution/Developing-for-the-Gear-VR).

Would it be possible for you to help me make your Beta SDK to work? A possibility for you would be to share your own Unity Project with me so I can use this as a starting point to set-up my own Vuforia GearVR apps.

Or could you just share an asset that everyone can import instead of releasing such a confusing manual? Because even when following the instructions step by step it just does not work.

Also in all these topics no one is really responding with 'it works' furthermore vuforia isn't giving any real answers to the problem:

Did anybody manage to make it work on GearVR? An if so, could you share your files?

Sharing is caring! Vuforia, little advice, just share the assets with us and not your vague instructions!!!

So... now we're up to Vuforia for Eyewear 4.2.3 and Oculus Mobile 6.0.1

Has anyone got this combination working on a Note 4?

So far all I can see is outdated instructions and everyone flailing around in the dark. It's almost like XCode 3 days out here.

If anyone has got this combination working, but doesn't have time to write a tutorial, please PM me or reply here. I'll build the tute. I've done it before and I don't mind at all.

Thanks.

I've been able to get the Digital Eyewear Unity SDK 4.2.3 fully working with Oculus Mobile Unity SDK 0.4.2 and Unity 4.6.5 on Gear VR Note 4. No luck with Oculus Mobile Unity SDK 0.5.0 or 0.5.1, and no luck with S6 (which I hear is officially unsupported anyway).

Anyone got Gear VR working with the current Oculus SDK?

For some reason typing that out helped me. It is a specific location. The position the gui needs to be in is (0,0,10) localposition inside the new trackingspace. Anything close than that isnt rendered.

Next question - how do you get Unity 4.6's new GUI system to work with Vuforia Eyewear? Worldspace GUI's do not seem to render on the vuforia cameras

I''d like to second this question. This is the issue i've been dealing with the past couple days.

It's not just that worldspace guis dont render. NOTHING renders in front of the camera. I think the GUI needs to be in a specific very strange place, still trying to find where tha spot it. I'll let you know if I find anything out.

Okay - current document works! Thanks for updating!

Note: make script changes before checkboxing DisableVRCamera (this is a vuforia specific clause and not included in OVR)

There are still inaccuracies in this Vuforia document:

https://developer.vuforia.com/library/articles/Solution/Integrating-Oculus-SDK-050

OVR 0.5 does not have an actual "Disable VR Tracking" boolean in OVRManager

Quote:

4. Add the OVRCameraRig prefab from the OVR/Prefabs/Folder to the scene and check the “Disable VRTracking” checkbox in its inspector:

Corollary:  DisableVRTracking is NOT in OVRManager

Quote:

OVR\Scripts\OVRManager.cs

Add the following property to the OVRManager class:

/// <summary>
/// If true, all VR tracking is disabled.
/// </summary>
public bool DisableVRTracking = false;

Thanks much for finally updating the guide for OVR 0.5 - will check later today to see if these library issues are now resolved..

We have provided Digital Eyewear sample apps for Unity and Android here:

The Unity samples include: ImageTargets & VirtualButtons
