Vuforia, Unity and Google Cardboard

March 21, 2016 - 7:43pm #1

Hello:

I am using the Unity Vuforia extension for Google Carboard. I have followed the steps to perform the camera configuration with the Google Cardboard prefab. However, I can see that almost half of the viewport appears in black (top and bottom). When I choose Viewer = "None" in the ARCamera though, I am able to see the full view, but with some flickering.

How can I overcome this? Maybe I am doing something wrong in the configuration or this is how it is meant to work.

Any help will be appreciated.

When using Cardboard in AR mode, the video background will fill only a sub-region of the available screen; this is the intended and expected behaviour and it is done in order to take into account the fact that the device camera (AR video background) covers a field of view which is usually smaller than the field of view used by cardboard.

Hello:

Thank you for the prompt response.

Actually, I have followed the tutorial. It seems to be a problem with the video resolution. When using Google Cardboard, the viewport becomes too small and almost half of the view is in shown in black. When I delete the background plane object the scene's resolution is fine.

Is there a way to overcome this? I am running the application on a Galaxy S5.

If you need to integrate Vuforia with the Cardboard SDK, follow this guide:

Vuforia 5.5.9 also introduces a new built-in support for Cardboard stereo viewers that does not require integrating the Cardboard SDK; see the ARVR-5-5-9 sample app:
