Hi everybody, I got THE SOLUTIONS!

Take your png no background image,

upload it on http://www.picturetopeople.org/image_utilities/image_converter.html

Choose to convert it in png24bit or png 8bit.

The image will be saved under this format i.e. image.png24

Rename it back to image.png

Upload it to Vuforia and it will be accepted.

Hello,

As discussed in the following article: https://library.vuforia.com/articles/Training/Getting-Started-with-the-Vuforia-Target-Manager

  • Image must be in one of the supported formats: PNG or JPEG
  • Image must either be grayscale or RGB-24 bit. This means that 32-bit images with an alpha channel (RGB + Alpha) are not allowed.
  • Image size does not exceed 2 MB

Thanks,

What about I want to keep background transparent in PNG, not white?!

PNG file seems to be impossible to upload which makes zero sense!

Hello,

Apologies for the inconvenience. The general rule, as documented here, is the following:

"Target images for Image Targets, Multi-Targets and Cylinder Targets must be either 8 or 24 bit PNG or JPG files. JPG files must be RGB or greyscale. The maximum image file size is 2.25 MB."

@SleezyE I ran the "peach" image through the following tool: http://www.imageforensic.org and it reported the following:

PNG image data, 480 x 480, 8-bit/color RGBA, non-interlaced

I believe the nuance is in RGBA's support for the alpha channel. To test this, I did the following:

  1. Opened file in MS Paint (not Paint 3D)
  2. Saved file as .JPG
  3. Uploaded to Target Manager

Moving the image format to JPEG removes the alpha channel, but leaves the background as white which I believe is what @fidozx is trying to do.

Thanks,

I'm having a similar issue. I've saved a file as a .png, I've saved it as 24bit so I don't know why it wont upload! Does it not allow you to upload an image target unless they have a background? It will work better for my project if I can have it without a fixed background.

I am using a mac for the first time. I got the same error as everyone in this post/thread. I could not find anywhere how to check the bit size of the image and still don't know how (the error message says the image needs to be 24 bits).

I was using the Mac screen capture to capture the image.

When saving the image I tried unchecking the alpha channel check box . The image uploaded!

which is completely sucks. as you cant use any shapes accept rectangles and squares.

Would you be able to share your image that is failing so I can try it? You can PM it to me if you'd prefer not to share it publicly.

Thanks,

The image needs to be in RGB 24-bit, or gray-scale 8-bit.

Hi alhammadi_am

in your case the message is self-explanatory:

8 bit gray scale or 24 bit RGB of file type JPG or PNG are allowed

any other format will not work.

Hi, are you sure you did not change the image (for instance opening and resaving the image...) ?

Not sure why the same image has been accepted two days ago, but anyway, your image must be in one of the formats mentioned in the error message (JPG, PNG, grayscale or RGB24); a frequent issue is wfor instance with images that are in CMYK format, as opposed to RGB.
