Flyer Augmented Reality Application

March 25, 2014 - 8:09am #1

I am just started to learn this wonderful technology of augmented reality and I think I'm into a bad start. First what I want to create is a flyer AR mobile application, this application will enhance what is the content of the flyer by augmenting more descriptions, images, videos, and mini-games.

I am really having a hard time in absorbing all the knowledge that you can get on the documentation page, so I decided to ask this, I want to know what platform(Android, iOS and Unity) is the best way to go? I've tried working on unity already, adding image target and changing the model of the teapot and displaying the output using my webcam on play mode, I also tried to develop on android but I'm having a hard time on understanding the given examples(despite of having a background on java programming) especially on displaying the 3d model(I did'nt have any idea on how to change the teapot to another model).

I want to ask another question if possible, I want to know if the text on the video(see below) that is popping on the screen(maybe the details of it's jump boost etc.) is possible to create in unity as well?

Yes, you can augment your targets with Text, as well as Videos, 3D models, sounds, etc... Unity allows achieving these effects easily.

Thanks for the reply. I think I will go with unity for now.

I think the answer to your question is already contained in the question... if you don't feel extremely comfortable with the Android sample code and how to handle the 3D models, then probably Unity would be a much easier and natural choice...

but this is up to you in the end.

Also, if you develop the App in Unity, you will be able to deploy it on both Android and iOS, since Unity supports both those platforms,  which is cool :-)
