You can use QCAR to recognize 2D images that are known ahead of time. The images need to be preprocessed using the Trackable Management System on this site. In the code you will get the name of the trackable, which you assigned when you created the target.

I have a simlar project I want to develop.

What I would like to know is: Could I use QCAR as a form of identifying an object - and return a value (string? number? Boolean?).

I'm not really interested in projecting 3D information over an object - that seems a bit of a gimmick (for this project at least), I'm just interested in the object recognition side. If I could return a value related to an object I'm hoping I could then pass that information to a seprate API, thus retreiving some additional content on it.

e.g. This is object "X" > pass "X" as an argument > retieve information on "X".

...Think Google Goggles, but more specific.

So far this is just my theory (I've not developed anything with Computervision before), but is this possble with Qualcomms SDK's/QCAR?

QCAR currently works with Android and iOS devices. You can not use it to develop a desktop or web application that uses a webcam.

The second idea should be possible, just create image targets from the images you want to recognize.

Please read through the Dev Guide for more details on what QCAR can do.

Hi Kim,

Do i need to use any special library/element/classes for this commerce app?

Ooo ok..

Basically, this is what i wanna do.
Im having 2 ideas in my mind.

This is more to a e-commerce related app:
1) An user shops online and selects a shirt.
2) He clicks on allow to open webcam.
3) When a user turn on his webcam, the webcam will become a mirror.
4) The selected shirt will be visible on his body on the webcam.
5) And there will be some menus floating on the webcam.
6) When he waves his left hand up and down(as though pressing the button), dress size increases/decreases.

Is this possible using QCAR?

Here i assume the person is the imageTarget.

2nd idea is:
When user shops online, if he wants to know the details of a shirt, Using the android device, he just bring his android camera to the shirt... and then he will see all details(i.e: price, discount, material, manufacturer) about the shirt.
Im not sure if its possible.

QCAR can't process still images, it only works with the live camera feed.

In essence, QCAR provides the orientation of known images or markers in relation to the device. You can use this to render content that is tightly-registered with the image/marker, or to react in some other way.

So, you would need to know all the "relevant information" related to the image, and come up with a way to display it when the trackable comes into view.

With the native SDK you might render something in 3D using OpenGL and the given pose matrix from the visible trackable.

With the Unity Extension you might add a 3D model to your scene and make it the child of the trackable.
