Image detected twice by similar image targets in one database

April 25, 2020 - 5:36am #1

Hi all, I'm a Vuforia newbie and I couldn't find any information on that:

I'd like to know how Vuforia behaves with multiple similar image targets in one database. I have one real target that I want to detect and multiple different images of it (about 10) in my database to improve detection.

I've tested it and noticed that it sometimes detects 2 or 3 at once and keeps tracking them. Other times it detects one and then won't detect any other (although it's the same setup). It seems like Vuforia does not use once "identified" areas of the video feed, for other detections, is that correct or can anyone explain how Vuforia behaves here? A link would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

Also I noticed Vuforia "remembers" previously detected but lost targets and detects them way faster if visible again.

Thanks for your response. My uploaded image targets are indeed different, i.e. I "randomized" the picture of the target I want to recognize, and I can see quite a big improvement in recognition. I guess in the case that multiple targets are detected, I'm just gonna sort out priorities by myself.

Regards

Hi,

Vuforia does not support the ability to track multiple instances of the same Image Target. I am mentioning here, identical Image Targets.

If the same setup is showing different results, it may be due to the camera angle, video feed picking up different portions of the images.

My colleague is mentioning a general rule, here: https://developer.vuforia.com/forum/unity-extension-technical-discussion/similar-image-targets-problem#comment-7792 regarding threshold.

However I want to confirm that the threshold or margin of error is *not* adjustable.

Unfortunately we don't have any other public facing information available to share.

Hope it helps.
