image marker inside image "inception" problem

April 29, 2014 - 6:54pm #1

this is a bit of an odd one, bit of a "inception" problem...
so imagine a poster and on that poster there is a picture of a pretty girl holding a magazine which is not facing the camera front on.
i want to track the magazine image, not the poster, and have the AR perspective adjust correctly.
anyone have ideas on how this can be done?

ok, here are a couple image of the problem,
and a video here => https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3828359/qcar_marker_angled.mp4

as you can see, the qcar marker is rendered in the image with perspective (on a angle to the camera).

what kind of transformations do i need to do to apply to make it match the marker?

image markers are not designed to be used in extreme angles, that's what cuboid markers are for, but anyway: does the augmentation fail even with normal angles (45º) with both aproaches (magazine marker and poster marker)?

ive already tried those two approaches, theres a lot more to it.
moving the device around to extreme angles causes weird transformations.
it matched up if camera point directly straight at the marker but fails when you move the phone to different angles.

easy, scan the original magazine cover the girl has in its hand, and use that as a marker.
or an even better option: scan the whole poster, use that as  a marker, and then rotate the augmentated object so it matches the perspective of the girl's cover (you'll find that quite easy to perform if you use unity)
