OK. The general approach is as follows:

  • generate an image containing your text
  • create a texture in OpenGL which will contain such text image (use glGenTextures() function, using basically the same sample code where all the textures are initialized)
  • update the content of the OpenGL texture whenever there is a change in the text image (you need to use glBindTexture and glTexImage function to update the texture buffer); this must be done in the renderFrame() function

For the technicalities of the iOS specific part (how to create an image with text in it), please post the specific question in the iOS forum:

https://developer.vuforia.com/forum/ar-technical-discussion/ios

Note that the technique described can be successfulyl implemented, but will require a good mastering of OpenGL.

A very nice example of how to create textures with text (and also with other graphics elements) is given in the CloudReco sample (in that case, the texture represents a sort of "Book cover" with some information about a book, like price, title, etc.)

That is a very good starting point for reading and understanding the technique.

Hi, are you planning to do this in iOS or Android ? (or Unity?)
