Please help me! Compiling problems

August 8, 2012 - 10:43am #1

Hello everybody,

I am not a professional developer and I really have big problems. I did everything I read, I set up the development environment but I do not know how to compile and run a Vuforia Sample App. I read this:

https://ar.qualcomm.at/qdevnet/sdk/android/Installing%20the%20Vuforia%20SDK

but I'd need more precise information..

I'd need a sort of "Vuforia for dummies" or a tutorial "step by step".

Can anybody help me?

I'd be very grateful.

Thanks a lot.

Rocco.

Hello Roocs,

The Android developer site may be helpful in getting you up to speed with the Android development environment. Using the NDK requires a program called Cygwin. Have you installed Cygwin? Instructions for downloading and installing Cygwin are on this website as well as the Android developer site. Cygwin uses Unix commands so "cd" is used to change directories to the sample app path. You then type ndk-build and if everything is set up correctly the native code is compiled into a .so object.

However I would suggest you try building the Unity ImageTargets sample. Building a Unity sample app is much easier. Please go to Unity3D.com and download a 30 day trial of Unity. You can then download our Unity Extension from this site and follow the instructions in the SDK section to compile the Unity sample. The workflow for this is Open Unity -> Double click on the ImageTargets.unitypackage sample in Windows 7 -> Open the ImageTargets scene in Unity by double clicking -> Select build and run in the File menu. You should then have a working ImageTargets sample application.

Thank you,

-Peter

Thanks for reply, David.

Well, this is exactly the point. I just have low basic skills in compiling and I don't know what to do:

"Have you imported the sample as an Eclipse project?"

I tried to import the Sample as an Eclipse project but I don't know if I imported the right file and I don't know how to use Eclipse..

"Have you run ndk-build from the command line within the sample's base directory?"

No, I didn't and I don't know where to start..

I found very interesting and detailed intormation on the website about the creation of the development environment (step 1 of the dev.guide) but step 2 (Installing the Vuforia SDK) and step 3 (Compiling & Running a Vuforia Sample App) are not so detalied and a novice like me would need more info to get started.. I'd need a step by step explaination, and my target is just to understand how the sample "ImageTargets" works and to see it in action.

are there any tutorial about it?

I'm working in Windows 7

Thanks a lot.

How far have you gotten? - and what is the OS of your development system?

Have you imported the sample as an Eclipse project?

Have you run ndk-build from the command line within the sample's base directory?
