Questions- Mixed AR with Projection mapping

Hello!

 

My team and I have developed a couple AR apps with Vuforia going back to 2015 (Scorpion Dagger artbook, Anteism Books)  and we have a projection mapping project we would like to create for an installation.. wondering if anyone could comment on whether its possible?

 

Essentially we'd like to run vuforia engine on a desktop,  have a webcam to see various targets on a tabletop scene,  and a projector to display added content over top.

 

In my mind I imagine that if we could strip away to black the background of what is displayed on the tablets screen, and only have it showing the added content,  then it could be projected over the table top, no?

 

I also imagine that the targets in the scene would need to be hard edge high contrast,  and the content projected would need to be low-contrast colors, perhaps blurry shapes or similar,  in order to not interfere with the target tracking and cause feedback ?

 

I can provide a drawing if that would help !

Hi,

Vuforia is designed for handheld devices or AR Headsets. An overview here: https://engine.vuforia.com/devices.html

Devs use Unity and webcams to prototype their apps. However I am not aware of apps being build specifically for a desktop and I am not sure how well this will work. As an alternative to desktop we support UWP devices like Surface.

I believe you will need to thoroughly test the app and see how it behaves on a desktop.
