Several markers indicating the same object.

I am working on an art installation where we have a large sculpture (ca 8m) which will make out the basis for an AR landscape. The sculpture and the landscape are the same size. Is there a way for me to make several image targets denote the same object?

The sculpture is a large lowpoly island made out of metal. We will then add inhabitants, animals and plants in augmented reality. Easiest I guess would be if we could just place out the markers in unity and then place the real life markers in the same place as the ones in unity, telling vuforia that each of these denotes the whole island (but that of course one will always be prioritised). However, since the object need to be a child of the marker this doesn't really work. Is there a way to get around this?

I've seen where large targets (the size of a building wall) have been broken up into smaller, individual targets using MultiTarget feature:

This allowed the larger art to be broken up into smaller components so that detection and tracking could be established without requiring the user to see the entire piece of art. It also allowed for a seamless and consistent experience (similar to our sample app where the teapot can be seen within the cuboid from any view of he box's exterior).

This was done by hand modifying the XML file of the dataset. Although the portal tool workflow only supports 2 to 6 sided, cuboid objects, this file's settings can be manipulated to represent other non-standard target layouts.

In another example, a dev placed a target above and below a monitor to place augmented content upon it. This allowed tracking to persist regardless whether the camera was tracking the upper or the lower. It's a similar idea to the previous example, but demonstrates that the targets to do not have to be next to one another to function, which sounds similar to your use case.
