Trackable rating differences - Vuforia vs. Gimbal

Hi!

We're using Vuforia to do some cool apps for marketing and sales to our customers. We've also started to evaluate Gimbal as it opens up quite a few new possibilities.

My question concerns image recognition for the different systems. Using the online tools provided with both Vuforia and Gimbal to add an image marker I get different results using the same image for both tools. E.g. an image can be rated as 1 or 2 stars in Vuforia ("This image will not track very well" - and from my own experience I agree!) but the same image when uploaded via Gimbal is rated as "This image has adequate tracking performance and will work well with image recognition".

So does Vuforia and Gimbal use different image recognition techniques, and in that case, why? Is there a reason, just from an AR point of view, to choose one over the other? Or am I missing some crucial information of how image recognition in Gimbal compares to Vuforia?

Cheers,

Tim

Gimbal is using Vuforia, so the technologies are identical in that regard. But Gimbal can tolerate lower quality targets, due to the requirements of that use case, which may explain why they're adjusting the target rating.

In your case, Cloud Recognition can be used to improve your image recognition capabilities, so that you can use a broader variety of images. The platform is capable of hosting and recognizing an immense number of images, but there is no lower limit.
