Tracking large buildings

July 3, 2015 - 6:11am #1

I'm currently working on a project with Unity 5.1.1 and the Vuforia 4.2 Unity Extension. One desired aspect of the project is the tracking of large buildings, which are to be overlayed by 3d models of previous stages of the buildings. The varying lighting situations of the building are to be considered.

My question is, is it possible to implement such an application with Vuforia? Are there any tracking methods that can handle this properly (Image, Object, ...)? Is there anybody who has implemented a similar application and can share his experience? Any examples of apps?

Thank you in advance.

Have a great day!

Hi msdev,

I would be very interested to know if you came o any solution for this project. I am looking to create something similar, and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Changes in lighting, shadows, and reflections can impact ability to recognize features in a target. You might consider using a small stationary target whose size and distance to the building are known to the app and which can serve as tracking initialization and then place building augmentations in relation to that target. Extended Tracking might also be useful.
