Tweaking Vuforia for Image Recognition - not AR

Hello! I'm working on a project where we would like really solid image/target recognition from a camera feed. I've tested Vuforia for this purpose, and it works really good when objects/targets take up >30% of the webcam width. But we would really like it to work <=10% of the camera picture width. Also the video feed or AR overlay would not be used, so that could be turned off. Detection would only be used to trigger stuff.

So the question is

  • Can Vuforia be tweaked for this purpose. Like disabling the AR feature and lowering the framerate (2fps would be ok) to improve detection?
  • Can Vuforia be fed with a 1080P webcam feed, or better? What kind of hardware would be optimal?

I've done AR projects with Vuforia and Unity before, but haven't really looked "under the hood". If there are any advanced options to tweak.

Thanks a lot!
