Using Gaze Ray buttons in world space in AR mode

Hi,

I am working on a AR-app for Android and Cardboard. The AR-logic itself works great but I I also want to integrate menu buttons. I have been looking at the AV/VR-sample and the transition there between AR and VR.

I am wondering about the button "ARPort" in the VRWorld in the AV/VR-sample. Is it possible to use a button like this in an AR-camera? 

I want buttons to look at and select with a Reticle using Gaze Ray and I want the buttons to exist somewhere in the world space (for example when the user is looking down). I want the buttons to have nothing to do with AR-markers. They should always exist.
