Vuforia and dynamic Facebook Integration

Hi guys, just looking for some feedback on ideas, as am new to this technology.

I was wondering is it possible to overlay dynamic information on physical images?

For example, I would like to produce a (physical) magazine, with a certain level of Facebook integration available through an AR-enabled mobile application.

For example there might be a Facebook "Likes" logo printed at the bottom of the page. Assume the mobile app has already recognised the magazine and downloaded the number of likes for each page to Facebook. Could the app then overlay the number of likes beside this image? Could a Facebook "Like' button be added to the screen?

Really appreciate any thoughts!

I've been through the wringer on this and it looks like the way prime31 does things doesn't play well with Vuforia.  Both are trying to be the main activity.  I've found another plugin, Neatplug, that if asked they will provided you with a couple of files needed to get facebook working with vuforia cleanly.

I think it's easier to just rename Vuforia's postprocessing file to something, and let Prime31's postprocessing file find it and run it. I renamed mine to PostProcessBuildPlayer_QCAR, and Prime31's PostProcessBuildPlayer handled the rest.

First of all I notice that the problem happens with the post processing pipeline of Unity, Both Vuforia and the SocialPlugin from Prime31 uses the post processing to add the frameworks needed in xcode, ok... so I had to select one, in my case Vuforia, to work, then, I created another xcode project only with the SocialPlugin working... so I saw all the referenced scripts and frameworks and linked each one directly in the xcode...

I know that I may talking with myself, but if someone is getting the same problem, I think that I found the solution. It might be not the best workaround, and it's little complicated, so... if someone get in trouble with that, just ask me...

Hi everyone, I bought a plugin from Asset Store Unity3d "SocialNetworking iOS" of Prime31, the plugin works good, but when I import vuforia plugin starts the problems, I need help to figure out what happen.

The primary advantage of Unity is that is provides a 3D rendering engine and the development process is closer to interactive authoring than the sort of programming required w/ the native SDK's. So it's typically quicker and easier to develop in Unity.

Check on the iOS forum here for answers on how to extend your app using XCode.

Hi David, thanks for the quick reply.

There's not much in the Dev Guide about Unity, I did manage to find a tutorial on your site though. Is there a better place to learn about it?

What advantages would this have over your native SDKs for what I am doing?

Is it possible to create a certain amount of an AR app in Unity and then export this to xCode and develop further? For example if I wanted a tab bar controller where one of the tabs was for the AR and another tab was for whatever else I felt like including, perhaps triggered by a touch event in the AR.

Yes that's certainly possible. Keep in mind you need to use images that are detectable and will track well. It would be good idea to set-up an account on the TMS ( My Trackables - https://ar.qualcomm.at/qdevnet/ ) to test the designs that you're considering.

Also I would recommend evaluating Unity for developing this app. You can accomplish the same with either of our native SDK's, but it will be easier to develop in Unity.
