Vuforia Image Recognition without Augmented Reality

January 17, 2015 - 12:13pm #1

Hello there!

I am actually using Vuforia SDK on my application to Image Recognition (based on Books Sample on iOS) and I find it very precise and valuable on recognizing images. I had some issues configuring it to get screenshots from it, whether one specific image was found or not, in order to use them for my app.

The configuration consisted on getting buffer frames that were being processed by the time, and when my app recognized or not that image, I take the image from that frame and save it to my database. But there were some issues on it, the image wasn't clear and sometimes blurry (also with the green dots from image scanning animation).

Now these images are very valuable to me, because if there is an image that our app cannot find, because it's not on Vuforia's Cloud, then I need to take that image put it on the Cloud and the other time the user will find this image. But based on Vuforia Rating system the images weren't of good quality, and that causes issues when trying to recognize that image.

So I was wondering if there is a way or a service that Vuforia has to integrate Image Recognition without realtime scanning or Augmented Reality. Just to let the user take some photo on it's own, send it to Vuforia in order to do some processing by its part, and tell me if the Image was found or not.

Is this possible on Vuforia System?

While Vuforia's Cloud Reco does its recognition in the cloud, the data that is sent to the server is controlled by Vuforia:
