Ground Plane Supported Devices

January 16, 2018 - 9:03am #22

Hi all

I'm excited about Ground Plane. However I only have HTC U11 which is not on Ground Plane supported devices list.

I followed "Introduction to Ground Plane in Unity" guide and built a simple demo apk. It doesn't seem to work on HTC U11.

I was wondering that it is the hardware of HTC U11 doesn't feed the requirement of Vuforia Ground Plane or just HTC U11 hasn't been tested and it's blocked by supported devices list?

If it's the device hasn't been tested and it's blocked by supported devices list,

I wish I could know if there is any way to try Ground Plane on HTC U11 earlier before it shows up on list?

Thanks

Hello Sherlore,

Thank you for your feedback. There are several factors that determine whether or not a device can be supported by the Vuforia SDK for advanced features, such as Ground Plane and Model Targets. These include a number of hardware and software requirements based upon each device's unique specifications.

Vuforia is actively identifying devices that meet these requirements, and continuously updating our supported devices lists with new models as they become available:

Hi, there.

I am also interested in ground plane feature. Right now I can deploy your sample app on my friend's samsung s8+(not on my HTC U11+). But I still have some questions.

First I want to know what the hardware requirement is on these supported devices. (I know these devices must contain a camera and IMU. Do they need a powerful CPU or GPU? Do they need some specific type of IMU or something else?)

Second I want to know if I design a own-made android device should this device pass some certification or contain some special hardware?

Last but not least, thanks for developing such a powerful feature. Look forward to your reply. Really appreciate.

We have been waiting for ground detection on Android. Now that it is here we are a little confused why  Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge  is in the device list but the  S6 Edge+ is not... and is indeed not working with  Unity 2017.3 Patch 2.

Can you give us some insight on the process for adding devices.   When testing a superior device we would expect compatibility.

Hello

Will Huawei P20 be on the list of supported devices?

Thank you

Hi,

I write this here, maybe someone else is also interested.

Huawei P20 has the required device hardware mentioned by vuforia, but the ground plane is not supported.

I tested it and I received an error message: the device has failed to start the positional device tracker.

how can it be possible that the moto g4 is supported, but the followed version, the moto g4 plus is not supported?

also, why is the Huawei P20 Pro which has three lenses and one of the best cameras available, not supported?

there should be a possibility that improves this checkup. E.g. let us submit devices which you can check, or make it possible to turn this checkup off or something.

please provide us with information about how you determine which device is supported and which not. currently its absolutely not possible to use vuforia for productive apps

Hello Vuforia Support,

Thanks for the links of the Vuforia Fusion Supported Devices list! It is possible to add a date when this list was updated?

In particular I am wondering whether the device "OnePlus 6" is supported!? And if yes which Vuforia version needs to be used?

- The "OnePlus 5" is mentioned in the list as supported but there is no information about the "OnePlus 6"... Is the "OnePlus 6" (launched end of May 2018) not supported or is it not yet tested?

Thank you,

Ed

This is a good suggestion. I will open a ticket to have this added.

Unfortunately, the OnePlus 6 is not a supported device. I will add it to our device calibration backlog.

Thanks,

Hi,

Thanks for the fast reply!

Please provide the reason what makes the OnePlus 6 not working with Vuforia (but the OnePlus 5)... According to the Ground Plane Minimum Requirements given in the link, it seems the OnePlus 6 fulfill those requirements!?

What does this mean exactly? Does this mean there is a chance, the OnePlus 6 will be supported in the future? Because I already bought the OnePlus 6...

Best regards,

Ed

Hello,

Device, calibration in support of Ground Plane and Model Targets features, is manually performed by Vuforia using a proprietary process and tools. Thus, any device that is listed on that page has undergone (and passed) this process. Not all devices pass our calibration QA testing.

Actually, this should not be an issue for you. Vuforia Fusion supports ARCore, and the OnePlus 6 is an ARCore supported device: https://developers.google.com/ar/discover/supported-devices. Thus, Ground Plane should be enabled on this device when ARCore is installed.

Hi!

I have this smartphone:

I would like to know if it is possible to just test this device to include it in the list of devices supported by Vuforia Fusion.

Thanks!

Hi,

I tried the vuforia ground plane sample and it worked fine on my LG Q6. But when I tried the first experience tutorial (https://library.vuforia.com/articles/Solution/ground-plane-guide.html) it didn't work on my phone. It worked on an other phone, which is on the list of supported devices. The LG Q6 isnt on the list, but then why does the sample works but not the tutorial app?

Thanks for your help

Hello @mKlimm,

The Vuforia Fusion Supported Devices page represents devices that were hand-calibrated by Vuforia for advanced features, such as Ground Plane. In some cases, these devices are not supported by platform CV services like ARKit and ARCore.

Vuforia Fusion will prioritize platform CV services (ARKit/ARCore) over Vuforia VISLAM. Thus, in your case, it is very likely that ARCore has been installed on your device and Vuforia Fusion is using it to drive the Ground Plane feature.

The list for ARCore supported devices can be found here: https://developers.google.com/ar/discover/supported-devices

Thanks,

Thanks for your reply,

yes, ARcore is  installed on my my device. But that does not explain, why the ground plane detection only works in the sample app, but not when i follow the "introduction to ground plane" instructions. It works on an other device, so i concluded its not due to an code error.

is there any possible way to put model at any particular ground space.

Some of our customers report that our Vuforia app is not running on certain (newer) Android phones, e.g. Samsung Galaxy A50. These devices do support ARCore, however they are not included in the supported devices list for Vuforia Ground Plane detection. The error message "Unsupported Device. This device has failed to start the Positional Device Tracker" is displayed on the screen and remains on the screen while the app is playing, see the attachment.

It seems that Ground Plane detection is working however, because the holograms are kept on the same location (is that proof enough?).

Is there a way to disable that error message?

Hope this can be solved since the app is in the store and there is a marketing campaign associated with it.

Thanks a lot,

Hello,

The question is whether ARCore *installed* on the devices observing this error? The Vuforia Engine Supported Device page is meant to represent devices that have been calibrated by Vuforia (as the device was not supported by ARKit/ARCore at some time), and exceptions to supported devices. It is NOT meant to represent a current list of supported ARKit/ARCore devices.

If ARCore is installed on an A50, via the Google Play Store, then Vuforia Fusion should detect the presence of the platform CV provider and successfully initialize the experience.

Thanks,

Vuforia Engine Support
