Issue lost ground/positional tracking after multitarget detection

September 12, 2018 - 3:30pm #1

Using Unity 2018.2 with Vuforia 7.2, ARCore 1.4 (fusion) enabled and Stereo eyeware.
Initially ground detection and tracking works perfectly, then we detect and track a multi-target cuboid and that works fine as well, position and rotation. But, when we stop using the multi target element and go back to the ground surface, the tracking fails and drifts.

Here is a video to better expain the issue:
https://youtu.be/u4qA3BuvK48

Maybe there is an anchor that is created automatically when the multitarget object is detected and being tracked, and after using it, that affects the ground/device tracking? Or something like that.. Any workarounds?

Thanks!

Issue lost ground/positional tracking after multitarget detection

Hi medabit,

I guess it happened only when under MR view.

I accidentally post another post (https://developer.vuforia.com/forum/ground-plane/mixed-reality-stereoscopy-issue).

Because in beginning I was trying to post in bug report, but I found I cannot do that, so I directly move the post here. Not notice there is similar one.

In my case it also happened on iPhoneX with Image Target.

I am new to the forum. Should I move my post to here or keep it that way?

Thanks,

Sherlore

Hello,

I did a mock of your scenario using our Core Samples. Using this test, I *was not* able to reproduce the issue demonstrated in your video.

My setup has the following differences:

  •     Unity 2018.2.8f1 (64bit)
  •     Pixel 3

Here's my video result: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tc336sqs2koa89i/2018_11_29_14_15_13_trimmed.mp4?dl=0

Can you share your project as a test target so that I can attempt to reproduce? If you don't feel comfortable sharing here, feel free to DM a link to me.

Thanks,

BTW same issue without using ARCore, of course the ground surface tracking is not good, but you can notice how crazy it behaves after detecting the multi-target cuboid.

Here is the video, same issue, but no arcore in this case: https://youtu.be/2oddaYL984Q

Additional info: we get the same behavior using different Viewer Configurations, like Phone + Viewer, Generic Cardboard (Vuforia) and VR Goggles (Merge).

And, this not only happens with MultiTarget objects, but with basic ImageTarget as well...

Specific versions used in our lab:

- Unity 2018.2.7f1 (64bit)

- Vuforia 7.2.24

- core-1.4.0.aar librery (when tested in Fusion/ARCore mode).

Tested using Google Pixel 2 device, Android 9.
