Is it possible to recognise different planes or surfaces and attach onto them different images or 3D objects at runtime?

Hi,

I'm a newbie to Vuforia and wanted to develop some kind of a "room editor" app. The user could scan various surfaces or 3D objects around a room and attach or load onto them a predefined set of images, 3D objects or sounds, etc, all of this in runtime. My questions are:

1. Is it possible to provide the user with an object or surface scanner to work on runtime? For instance, the user should be able to scan objects such as pencils, remote controls and even the surface of a table.

2. Once the user has scanned this objects or surfaces, is it possible to attach to them predefined images, videos, 3D objects or so?

A use-case would be something like this: The user starts the app and moves around his room. Finds a pencil and scans the pencil and is immediately shown options to attach a picture to this pencil. Something like it is done when Unity associates an ImageTarget to a 3D object that is displayed when recognised, but all of this in run time and with predefined datasets of images to attach to this real world objects.

Any reply regarding any possible approach for this would be gladly appreciated.

Thanks,

Arthur

Look at User Defined Targets.  It may be able to do what you need.  Should be an example in the Vuforia samples.
