AR experience with Hololens

January 25, 2017 - 1:27am #1

I am looking to make a basic AR experience using hololens for warehouse stocking. (I have made one in Thingworx view using thingmarks)

I do not have any experience using unity or coding in c#.

I want the experience to be able to receive and send data to Things in thingworx composer (is this possible?). If so I am wondering how much experience I would need to get using unity and what the best course of action is for me to produce this as quickly as possible, seeing as I am only going to be using this specific use of the SKS and am not interested in making any games etc.

Thanks,

Adam

AR experience with Hololens

Adam,

I believe Thingworx has a API/SDK that works with .NET.  Without ever doing this myself, my bet is it that's possible. My suggestion would be to first get Thingworx working with Unity as this might be a little bit of a challenge for you given you don't have any experience. If you can get that far, then the next step would be to see if your Unity application when built for Universal Windows Platform (UWP) through Unity actually works - as this can be cumbersome. The reason for UWP and not a traditional 'X86' Unity PC platform is because UWP is what steps you have to take for the HoloLens. My recommendation would be to get someone who is familiar with .NET and Thingworx and coordinate with them. I believe it's possible, but I don't think it's something that you might be able to jump right in.
