Holographic emulation uses pc webcam instead of hololens camera

April 23, 2019 - 6:56am #1

I am a beginner in working with unity / vuforia, and have followed a few example videos on how to setup and build a project on the hololens. But everytime I do so this happens.

When I try to emulate my project on the hololens, it will use the built in webcam of my pc instead of the camera on the hololens. The hololens shows whatever the webcam sees on it however, so i can see myself in it for some reason.

Is there a way to use the hololens camera  instead of the webcam?

Holographic emulation uses pc webcam instead of hololens camera

Hello,

Vuforia Engine SDK does not support the HoloLens Emulator, nor does it support the HoloLens remoting feature where the HoloLens webcam is used in Play Mode.

Since the Emulator doesn't work with a webcam, Vuforia does not have access to the video frames for processing by our CV algorithms. Thus, Vuforia cannot be used with HoloLens emulation.

Additionally, as HoloLens spacial mapping provides the 6DoF pose to the Vuforia Engine, remoting the HoloLens web cam only provides the Vuforia Engine with the ability to detect targets - not track them. Thus, HoloLens remoting will not work with Vuforia Engine, either.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Thanks,

Vuforia Engine Support
