HoloLens holograms in Vuforia camera image, using Unity

July 5, 2019 - 1:46am #1

Is it possible to have the holograms included when retrieving the Vuforia camera image using Unity running on the HoloLens (via CameraDevice.Instance.GetCameraImage, as described at https://library.vuforia.com/articles/Solution/Working-with-the-Camera#How-To-Access-the-Camera-Image-in-Unity)?

I already tried to use

CameraDevice.Instance.SetField("HologramCompositionEnabled", true);

analogous to the way it is done when using

Windows.Media.Capture.MediaCapture.AddVideoEffectAsync(IVideoEffectDefinition)

but to no avail.

If the holograms were already included when Vuforia analyzes the image, that would not be a problem; the scene is built in a way that the holograms will never occlude the printed Vuforia markers, and the holograms will never depict a Vuforia marker.

HoloLens holograms in Vuforia camera image, using Unity

Hello,

The virtual augmentations *are not* included when using Vuforia Engine APIs for retrieving the camera images. This is because you are capturing the stream of frames coming directly from the camera. Augmentations (Holograms) are rendered *after* the frame has been processed by Vuforia.

Thanks,
